Boystown Lakeview Gay Hookup Safety

At Couples Counseling Center, we work with a number of LGBT clients. Recently, several of our counselors have become aware that a number of gay men visiting the Boystown/Lakewview area have experienced problems when heading out to the gay bars along North Halsted Street. Here, we are talking about different forms of harassment.

We have also become aware that some gay men in Chicago have experienced theft and other forms of violent crime when attempting to meet other gay men (aka: hookup) while using smart-phone applications such as Grindr and Scruff.

Boystown Personal Safety

If you are a gay man who will be going out in Boystown in Lakeview or thinking about connecting with others through an app, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to think of personal safety.

  • Being careful with alcohol use so you do not impair judgment
  • Being mindful of giving out personal information
  • Telling your friends where you will be going

Gay Men Boystown

A simple search of the Internet reveals that one needs to use caution when heading out in the Boystown area of Chicago. Should you see something suspicious, are being harassed or experience a hate crime, please contact 911 immediately and request police assistance.

We are making available an article on self-defense in case you are ever in a situation where you need to disable someone who is threatening your person or physically attacking you. Notice the first recommendation is non-confrontation.
